Passing on the story of Christiane Moreau to future generations
In 2023, Queer Code integrates Christiane Moreau french resistance fighter into this corpus of journeys.
Memorial transmission of the story of Christiane Moreau
We first discovered the story of Christiane Moreau via two sources. One of them is linked to the story of Marguerite Chabiron, who helped Christiane Moreau when she tried to flee the Gestapo. This story was transmitted to us in 2016 by Jean François Moreau, nephew of Marguerite Chabiron. The second source is the text written by Evelyne Rochedereux “Hommage aux camionneuses” published in 2001 in the book “Attirances: lesbians fem, lesbians butch” under the direction of Christine Lemoine and Ingrid Renard, booksellers at Violette and Co. In her text, Evelyne Rochedereux evokes her Physical Education and sports teacher in Nantes, after several cross-checks we learn that this teacher was Christiane Moreau’s partner after the war.
We carried out research in different archive centers in France and Germany, cross-referenced sources, made contact with people whose family had known Christiane Moreau… We thank all the people who helped us bring together these archives.
